|Unknown||cat hung and nearly decapitated||Galveston, TX Galveston County||April 27, 2003|
The cat was found entangled in twine and appeared to have been strung up between fences on opposite sides of an alley in the 1300 block of 55th St. The juvenile division of the police department is investigating this animal cruelty case.
Mijong Dewitt, had been feeding a gray mother cat in the alley and showed the police where to cat was found dead. The dead cat had 6 kittens just before her death. The kittens were taken to a shelter.
Twine was wrapped around the cat's neck and legs. Dewitt held back tears as she described that the cats head was just about to fall off.
The police did not take the cats body so Dewitt buried the cat in her backyard.
Dewitt added that another cat believed to be the gray cats mother was found dead in the same alley about a year earlier. She appeared to have been poisoned.
An 11-year-old boy who lives nearby said he saw two boys stringing up the cat. One of the boys had denied any wrongdoing.
Last year, several juvenile boys were charged with felony cruelty to animals after they were accused of stoning a cat in an alley near 38th St. and Avenue M. The case was dismissed because authorities were unable to confirm that the boys actually killed the cat. The boys had to meet several conditions through the agreement, which included writing a 20-page report about the benefits of animals and pets to people.
Anyone with information about these cases is encouraged to contact the Galveston Police Department at 409-797-3700.
