Unknown shot a moose with an arrow, moose euthanized

Soldotna, AK

Kenai Peninsula Borough

February 7, 2002

Last week, a moose in Soldotna was shot with an arrow. Sergeant Dennis Chan of Fish and Wildlife Protection found the young bull alive with an arrow in its stomach on Elley Road near the end of Funny River Road.

It appears the moose was shot with an 8-inch arrow from a small hand-held crossbow. Chan is canvassing the area to find out who shot the moose.

The arrow could not be removed without causing more damage, Chan said. The moose was killed, and the meat was given to charity.
