Juvenile-Boy

9-year old boy accused of extreme animal abuse while mother looks on

San Antonio, TX

August 4, 2006

A 9-year old boy is accused of beating and torturing a kitten so badly that it had to be euthanized.  That boy may face felony charges.

Dr. Roque Gonzales with Animal Control stated the kitten had fractured ribs, which could have punctured the lungs. That was just be beginning of a huge list of internal injuries that killed the young white cat early Saturday morning.

A neighbor who witnessed the abuse stated it began around Friday night when she heard a piercing scream. When she looked out her front door she saw a boy with a kitten pinned up against the wall with his bike, and then saw him pull back and slam the kitten into the wall again. She ran over, rescued the kitten and took it home, then later brought it to Animal Control. The kitten had to be euthanized.

The witness also stated that the boy’s mother denied that anything had happened. She did nothing to stop hi and was right there when he did it, letting him continue to abuse the kitten.

An investigation is underway to find out exactly what the boy did, if anything, and if something could have prevented the kitten’s death. No charges have been filed against the boy thus far. If he is charged and then convicted, the boy could spend time in juvenile detention.

Officials are also deciding whether to charge the boy’s mother to contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
