Beating his puppy
Al-Zerjawi, age 27, was caught on video tape by a neighbor picking up the 10-month-old boxer puppy by her ears, hit her with shoes, lift hereby her front legs and twist the dog's legs behind her head.
The neighbor who videotaped the abuse said she didn't know whether the dog's owner was trying to make the dog vicious or trying to kill her.

Al-Zerjawi pleaded innocent to all charges at his arraignment on Friday, August 17th, 2001
At his trial on September 17, 2001, Al-Zerjawi pleaded no contest and was found guilty of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor charge, which is punishable by 90 days in jail.
The sentencing hearing was held of October 25th, 2001 where Al-Zerjawi was sentenced to 6 months in jail and is prohibited from owning another pet.
Al-Zerjawi said he did this as an act of self-defense. The staff at the Humane Society stated that the dog showed no signs of aggression, never nipping or biting anyone.
Heidi was adopted.
