Cockfighting bust

On December 23rd, Okanogan County Sheriff’s Deputies found a cockfight at a barn near Brewster with approximately 50 people in attendance. The five men who allegedly watched, bet on, or owned roosters involved in the cockfight have been charged with animal fighting.

Five adults and a 15-year-old boy were taken into custody. 32-year old Rodrigo Martinez Garfia of Brewster was charged last week in Okanogan County Superior Court with animal fighting as an owner or spectator.

32-year-old Arturo Lopez Pacheco of Brewster; 41-year-old Salvador Rivas Morales of Brewster; 28-year-old Florentino Cisneros Perez of Loomis, and 25-year-old Celso Pascacio Pacheco of Loomis were charged with animal fighting as spectators.

Conviction for animal fighting, either as an owner or spectator, is a felony punishable by up to 5 years in jail and a $10,000 fine.

Authorities found 25 live and 5 dead roosters in the barn.
