Jason Needham squirrels & pigeons shot with BB gun

Keansburg, NJ

Monmouth County

October 9, 2008

Needham age 48, of Oakwood Place has a problem with squirrels, according to the story related by Keansburg Deputy Police Chief James Pigott. His neighbor likes to feed the area squirrels, Pigott continued.

Matters, it seems, came to a head when the neighbor called police and said Needham was shooting at the squirrels with a BB gun, Pigott said. Needham is facing charges of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.

Later, the Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals filed its own charges, said Victor "Buddy'' Amato, the society's chief animal cruelty investigator. Those charges accuse Needham of animal cruelty for shooting at both pigeons and squirrels.

Now the matter heads to municipal court where Judge Michael D. Pugliese will try to sort things out on Oct. 23, Amato said.

The charges each have a maximum penalty of a $1,000 fine and as much as six months in jail, Amato said.
