A sadistic man has been arrested for animal cruelty after he was caught on video hanging a cat from a tree and using it as a punch bag.

Animal rights activists secretly filmed Dmitry Kiyanitsa, 31, torturing felines at his home in the Ukrainian capital city of Kiev.

Svetlana Lavrikova and Yulia Khomenko had been tipped off by Kiyanitsa's neighbours but needed evidence to get police involved.

Svetlana Lavrikova and Yulia Khomenko had been tipped off by Kiyanitsa's neighbours but needed evidence to get police involved  So they kept him under surveillance, and wrote down everything they saw and also began secretly filming him abusing cats. They knew they had the evidence they needed when they videoed him hanging a cat to a tree by a metal wire around its throat and then started punching it.

Ms Lavrikova said: 'We managed to catch him red-handed. He was beating the poor creature with a hose pipe and a stick as well.'

After tiring of his cruel game, Kiyanitsa took the cat down from the tree and started dragging it along the ground by the wire.

The pair showed their video to local police officers who promptly arrested the sadist.

The cat was taken to a vet who is now treating it for a broken pelvis, fractured ribs, a blood clot on its brain and other internal injuries.

The activists also accuse Kiyanitsa of threatening them with a knife when they entered his yard with police officers.

But he says he was only defending his private property from trespassers, reports local media.
