An 18-year-old man is behind bars for felony animal cruelty after he told police he choked a dog to death.

Timothy Frederick Okogbaa is also charged with felony production of marijuana after a cannabis plant he told police he was growing was found in a bathroom in his apartment at The Crossings at Santa Fe, according to an Alachua County Sheriff's Office arrest report.

Photo courtesy of the Alachua County Sheriff's Office Okogbaa told police he found the dog in an unrented room of his apartment, began petting the dog roughly and the dog then bit him. At this point, Okogbaa "became enraged, and began slapping the dog in the face," the report detailed.

He told police he choked the female pitbull to death, according to the report, and he then tied the dog up with a shoelace to make the dog fit better into a garbage bag.

Okogbaa is being held in the Alachua County Jail on a $60,000 bond.

Timothy Okogbaa has been jailed for violating conditions of his probation

Police booked Timothy Frederick Okogbaa was detained July 31st after having been charged for violating conditions of probation.

According to court records, Okogbaa was arraigned on 5/15/14; on 6/12/1 he was released on personal recognizance; 7/22/14 he was returned to court for violation of his pretrial release; plead not guilty on 7/30/14; jury selection will begin on 9/15/14 and his court date is set for 10/30/14
