The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a 24-year-old man for physically abusing a miniature 12-pound Dachshund.

Police say on August 8th, Stacy Glover was asked by his in-laws to watch their dog at a family home in the 15000 block of Cutting Horse Trail in east Sarasota County.

Upon their return, Glover told them that the small dog, Athena, ran away. The dog's owners reviewed their home surveillance video which captured Glover physically abusing Athena, throwing her out the back door several feet from the home. After the dog attempted to hide under patio furniture, Glover chased, captured and began beating her with his fist. Glover then picked her up by the throat and carried the dog back into the home. Later, Glover is seen carrying the lifeless dog out the back door and into a nearby wooded area. He returns a short time later without the dog. The dog's remains were not found but a veterinarian reviewed the video and determined that the excessive force would very likely cause serious, if not fatal injuries.
