Photo courtesy of the Portsmouth Police Department A warrant was issued for 37-year-old Nicholas D. Pelloni after authorities discovered the dead puppy, who died from starvation, and a neglected mother dog; seven young puppies who were stowed in a crate without food or water were also found.
Animal control officers had been called out to a home on the 700 block of Pacific Avenue in late July to perform an animal welfare check; the adult dog and the puppies were found in a detached garage. According to the officers, all of the animals showed signs of neglect.
The mother dog, who is described as a boxer, was taken to the Portsmouth Animal Control and the young pups, who are under seven weeks of age were moved to a foster home where they are reported to be doing well.
Individuals with information about Pelloni's whereabouts are asked to the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
