|1 adult female dog|
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Surprise, Arizona woman, Lucila C. Tellez,
62, on animal abuse charges, reported Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Tellez is the owner of an adult female dog that was found to be severely emaciated. Additionally, the dog was suffering from an acute case of dermatitis over most of its body and included bleeding, edema and crusting. The dog also had tick fever. The dog has received veterinary treatment and is being cared for by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office MASH Unit.
“The abuse in this case is disturbing,” said Arpaio. “The suspect who neglected this dog will have to answer for her cruelty.” Tellez was charged with 1 count of Animal Cruelty and Failure to Provide Necessary Medical Attention.
Sheriff Arpaio has a longstanding policy that any suspect that abuses animals will go straight to jail. Arpaio created the MASH Unit to care for animals of neglectful owners to nurse them back to health and to be made available for adoption when restored to full health.
